PRESS RELEASE

February 2, 2011

6th Caribbean Beekeeping Congress - Hosted in Grenada from May 23rd  to 27th May, 2011

The Government of Grenada, in collaboration with the Grenada Association of Beekeepers (GAB), the Association of Caribbean Beekeepers’ Organisations (ACBO) and the St. George’s University (SGU), is pleased to announce the hosting of the 6th Caribbean Beekeeping Congress in Grenada from May 23rd to May 27th 2011.

This is an important biennial event in the Caribbean which attracts many persons from across the region and the rest of the world who are involved or interested in getting involved in Apiculture. The event will present an opportunity for education on the importance of the honey bee and beekeeping.  Scientists and other experts will facilitate workshops which will be held during the Congress.

The honey bee has to be recognised not only for its honey and other products but also in terms of providing food security.  Pollination of flowers to produce fruits and vegetables that we need to stay healthy and alive is an important activity of this social insect.

There will be local promotional activities including programmes on Apiculture/Beekeeping in the coming weeks via the media.  The general public is invited to keep abreast with developments ahead of this regional event by visiting the Local Organising Committee’s website 6cbcgrenada.gd.

The event was scheduled to be held last year but was postponed to the week of May 23rd this year due to reasons provided in a previous Press Release.

We look forward to receiving the full support of the general public and corporate citizens with the hosting of this very important Caribbean event in Grenada during the week of May 23rd 2011.
